Priyan de Mel Wins GUKPT Bolton
Priyan de Mel is becoming somewhat of a GUKPT expert right now. The UK pro’ has just taken down his second GUKPT title after beating a field of 146 players in Bolton. Priyan’s victory earned him a chunky £44,000 prize for his £1000 buy-in.
It wasn’t long ago that de Mel won his first GUKPT, also in the north west of England, at the Blackpool leg of the GUKPT in December 2009.
de Mel’s victory, from last weekend, meant he is now only the third player to hold two GUKPT titles. It wasn’t an walk in the park for de Mel either with the likes of Jeff Kimber on the final table.
Following the win he said; “I’m really happy to have done back-to-back titles, but three titles is a good target to aim for. Most of my friends are in Australia now so I didn’t have many people here supporting me, but I guess them being away made it easier for me to win this one.”
The final table and cashes from Bolton looked like this:
1. Priyan de Mel – £44,600
2. Andrew Purser – £30,300
3. James Sykes – £19,000
4. Terry Owens – £11,700
5. Marc Wright – £9,100
6. Justin Devonport – £6,900
7. Philip Booth – £5,500
8. Jeff Kimber -£4,000
9. Aaron Barry – £2,900
10. Mark Robinson – £2,200
The next leg of the GUKPT takes place in Walsall on February 25th. We’ll have news of all the action and the results here at UK Poker News Headlines.
